Why is gold testing crucial to getting a gold loan in Scottsdale?

To the untrained eye, it can be very difficult to tell if a piece of jewelry or other gold piece is real gold or if it is a cheaper metal plated with a thin layer of gold or fake gold. There are different methods of making cheap plated or rolled gold. Gold testing is very important when determining if the gold is 100% real and if a customer qualifies for a Scottsdale gold loan.

How does gold plating affect getting a gold loan in Arizona?

Gold plating is a method in which another base metal forms the shape of the ring, such as copper or silver. Using chemical or electrochemical plating, a very thin layer of gold is deposited onto the surface of the metal. Gold plated jewelry has almost no gold tested and no real gold value, as the tiny layer of gold does not have any significant weight.

If my jewelry is gold filled, will I have a problem getting a gold loan in Phoenix?

Gold filled jewelry, which can also be known as “rolled gold plate” or “rolled gold” is when a base metal such as brass has a solid layer of gold bonded to it with heat. The word gold filled can be confusing to the consumer who may think that gold filled jewelry is filled with gold. Higher quality gold-filled pieces look very much like real gold but the value of the gold plate on the outside has no major value since there isn’t any significant gold weight.

By law, gold plated and gold filled jewelry has to be stamped “GF” or “GP” to denote that it is not solid gold. This is done for protection of the consumer.

Do people get more for gold loans in Scottsdale if the karat is higher?

Natural, pure gold is a very soft metal and because of this, other metals are added to it to make it strong and ticket. These metals that are mixed with gold in the final metal alloy may include silver, palladium, zinc and other types of metals. The various karats (10kt, 14kt, 18kt, etc.) are the various purities of the gold. Click here to read more in depth on the different karats.

When coming in to Biltmore Loan and Jewelry, we conduct the standard gold acid test to determine the karat of your gold jewelry so you can get a Scottsdale gold loan today.

What is the gold testing process for people getting gold loans in Scottsdale?

  1. We examine the gold jewelry piece with a loupe, looking for a stamp that may help denote the karat type of your jewelry
  2. We lightly scratch a single, thin line of your gold jewelry on a special black testing stone (this does not damage the item at all)
  3. After scratching, a line appears on the black testing stone
  4. Using various karat types of nitric acid, we put a drop of each type on the line
  5. If the line disappears where the drop is, that means the gold is a lesser karat than the type of testing acid used
  6. Using the process of elimination starting at 22kt, we can then determine the exact karat of your gold jewelry
