Now that spring has come around the corner, it is time to celebrate. What better way to celebrate the onset of spring than by spring cleaning your jewelry box! You are most likely thinking about storing your winter clothing and bringing out warm weather clothes. Plus, now that spring has begun you are probably thinking about cleaning furniture, floors, walls and windows. On the other hand, one of the most overlooked items to clean is the place where you store your jewelry!
Why Should You Spring Clean Your Jewelry Box?
Your jewelry requires more than just an annual sparkle. If you think about it, the jewelry you regularly wear is with you almost if not one hundred percent of the time. Every activity you do includes your jewelry. Your rings are subjected to various products and places. Perfumes, lotions, essential oils that you apply on your skin get on your jewelry as well. When you cook, your jewelry is exposed to ingredients that you touch and chop up. This can include garlic, onions, flour, vinegar, mayonnaise and even eggs! When you do gardening, you expose your jewelry to chemicals and garden dirt. No matter what your daily activities happen to be, your jewelry is right there with you. You might say that your jewelry gets cleaned when you use soap to wash your hands. However, there is always a residue that remains on jewelry that soap can simply not remove. When you store your jewelry in your jewelry box, all the residue and minuscule debris get trapped within the box as well, affecting all the other pieces and even the box itself.
Your Cleaning Process
Your process of cleaning will start with an inspection. Remove all the jewelry from your box and vacuum the interior. Use an old toothbrush to remove dust from the corners. The smaller partitions can also be brushed for dust removal. Next, check the hinges and the drawer knobs of your jewelry box, if this applies. Are they in good working order? If the answer is no, consider getting a new box. If the answer is yes, then go ahead and finish the cleaning process of the box. Use a disinfectant wipe to wipe down the interior and exterior of your jewelry box. After it dries, replace all the jewelry inside it.
Frequency
When it comes to your jewelry, it is a good idea to clean it twice a year. Of course, if you want to do this more often, you can. You will definitely be proud of the resulting cleanliness. You will be so impressed by how clean your jewelry box gets after a thorough cleaning that it won’t be a surprise if you want to make this a consistent habit.
Maintaining the Cleanliness
The benefits of a clean jewelry box are numerous. Not only will you be assured that your pieces are protected from dirt, but you will also be able to see all your jewelry much better when the container is organized and clean. Consistently maintaining the cleanliness of your jewelry box will help extend the life of the box itself and your jewelry pieces as well.
