For certain aesthetics, less means more. If you find yourself leaning toward muted color palettes, clean designs, and plenty of black and white, chances are you’re a minimalist at heart. Owning accessories is often unnecessary for the minimalist man, but a watch is a useful companion you can’t go without. Of course, no person who lives with the mantra of having “less” would be caught dead in a flamboyant and over-the-top watch, so minimalist pieces are the way to go.

You should also keep an eye out for understated bands that border between contemporary and classic for a timeless charm. For The Rugged Breitling Bentley 6.75 Men's Watch

Undoubtedly tougher than other breeds of chronometers, military timepieces specifically built to resist the elements. Night lights for evening adventures, water resistance, and world time functions are but a few of the great things these useful timepieces can offer. Although these watches tend to be chunky in design, there are some slim and classic styles for the gent who’s both edgy and sophisticated. Consider Breitling Cockpit B50 Night Mission, Rolex Submariner 116610LN, Timex Expedition Camper if you watch strength and durability that fits an outdoor lifestyle.

Keep track of time with a watch that represents your values and suits your style. Whether you’re out chasing sunsets or working toward your fitness goals, there’s a timepiece to ensure everything you do is done on schedule. The more things you have in common with your watch, the more you’ll look forward to wearing it on your wrist.

The case and strap feature a silicon material while the glass is made of mineral crystal. This model comes in a striking black shade as well.

The Absolute Essentials To Buying Your First Luxury Watch

Breitling Chronospace Chronometer A78365 Stainless Steel Mens WatchWhen it comes to looking for the right luxury watch to invest in, being interested, passionate, or even liking the brand is fundamental. Deciding to make that leap from a consumer watch to a coveted wrist flex is one thing, but actually buying it is another. Purchasing a luxury watch is an emotional process for many people as it is bound to be worn for decades, mark the start of a collection, or handed on to the next generation.

At the top of the accessories chain when it comes to price points, luxury watches are a universally accepted symbol of status. Before dropping some serious money on a timepiece, here are the essentials you need to know.

The Price Range

Watches come in all shapes, styles, and of course, prices. But at what price range does the term “luxury watch” fall in? What drives factor the most are the materials used, the brand name, the exclusivity of the watch, and the prestige that comes to wearing it. Here’s a quick guide.

  1. Under $300 – These are fashion or consumer watches which are aesthetic and functional. There’s nothing bad about them, after all, they can do their main function which is to tell time. However, they’re not something you can really call an investment.
  2. From $300 to $1000 – Expect a good quality watch for this budget. This range offers timepieces made of fine materials and are a cut above consumer watches.
  3. From $1000 to $10,000 – These are branded luxury watches made from excellent materials and have high-quality craftsmanship. They make for a good investment for their high resale value, but they are often passed on as heirloom watches.
  4. Over $10,000 – Consider these timepieces the Lamborghinis and the Ferraris of the industry. For many, owning a luxury watch of this caliber is more than an investment but also a status symbol. Also known as “grail watches,” these rare creations are some of the most exquisite and awe-inspiring accessories one can wear.

Prior-Owned Vs. Brand New ROLEX Day-Date Champagne Dial 18K Yellow Gold President Automatic Men's Watch CDP

Choosing between used and a brand new luxury watch comes down to a matter of value and opinion. Like a brand new car that drops in value for up to 20 percent the moment you drive it out of the showroom, so too do most high-end watches.

The same with cars as well, some would argue that your first high-end watch should be brand new to truly make it yours. Being the first person to wear that particular watch can be a special experience. On a more practical approach, a pre-owned luxury timepiece is still a fantastic item to own and you will be able to save more money going this route.

Both options have pros and cons. If the price difference isn’t too far apart, then choosing the brand new watch seems like a good idea. But if getting a prior-owned will save you several hundred dollars, you may want to consider that factor carefully.

Get To Know The Brands

The industry is full of powerhouses with rich and diverse histories, each with a long-standing devotion to excellence. Take time to look at different brands and learn about their heritage. It’s important to know the different things that inspire them, so you can decide which brand you can relate to the most.

For example, Omega has always been the official timekeeper for the Olympic games. Rolex, on the other hand, has had a long and fascinating history of deep-sea exploration. A household name, Breguet has crafted one of the oldest watches in the history of timekeeping with celebrated clients like Napoleon Bonaparte’s sister Caroline the Queen of Naples, and Louis XVI and his queen Marie-Antoinette.

A Movement That Suits You ROLEX Presidential Oyster Perpetual Black Dial Day Date 18K Yellow Gold Mens Watch

The movement is the engine of a watch, also known as a “caliber.” This internal mechanism is what powers the watch. It enables the movement of the hands and other intricate features such as the annual calendar, chronograph, etc. There are various movements that are created by watch manufacturers, however, each of them typically fits into one of two categories – Mechanical or Quartz.

Mechanical – The mainspring, which must be wound to store energy, is the most essential element of a mechanical movement. When it unwinds, it releases energy to move the gears that make the timepiece work. This movement, invented by expert watchmakers, contains a complicated series of tiny components that work together the way every watch did before the age of the battery-powered timepiece.

The mechanical movement is less accurate than its quartz counterpart, but the latest technology has allowed this engine to be far more precise than it ever was before. This category further filters down into manual and automatic.

Traditionalists prefer manual hand-wound movements for their beautiful display that can be seen through the case-back. Meanwhile, automatic movements are trendier because they are self-winding, and they harness energy through the natural motion of your wrist. The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch, Panerai Luminor 1950, and Breguet Reine de Naples are some of the most coveted mechanical watches.

Quartz – These watches are battery-powered and have fewer moving parts, which makes them not only popular but also more cost-effective. Easy to maintain, the quartz movement is extremely reliable and loses only a few seconds every month.

While luxury watch enthusiasts still prefer the mechanical type, you may want to consider a quartz watch for its affordability, convenience, and fewer time adjustments.  Leading brands do create timepieces with this movement with extremely strict standards. Tag Huer Aquaracer 500 M, Seiko Astron, and Breitling Aerospace Evo are excellent choices.

Every luxury watch is a work of art, made with excellent workmanship and attention to detail. A well-built one can last for several generations. It’s an ideal accessory for those who want to celebrate the long history of making and wearing intricate and stunning timekeeping instruments.

The Essentials Of Pawning A Luxury Watch

A luxury watch tells not just the time, but it also expresses the wearer’s style, wisdom, and success. The entire process of creating high-end timepieces is distinctly different from those of mass-produced watches, which makes them a symbol of prestige. Here are four main qualities that set them apart from run-of-the-mill options. Tiffany & Co. 18K Yellow Gold Diamond Tesoro Women's Watch

  • Brand – The biggest names in the luxury watch industry have a landmark feature that sets them apart from the others. For example, Rolex watches are made from 904L steel, a more sophisticated and more rust and corrosion-resistant option that requires the use of special tools and machines. That makes their timepieces last for many years, thus the high price tag.
  • In-house Movements – All the moving parts of a watch are put together in the company’s plant rather than being outsourced. Some watchmakers even perform the assembly and polishing totally by hand.
  • Features – Many luxury watches offer additional functions that go beyond the standard model. Features like a date display, calendar, and time zone information can add more value to a watch.
  • Jewelry – Some of the most expensive watches are adorned with precious metals and gemstones. They serve as jewelry to fit the individual’s jet setter lifestyle.

The Best Way To Sell Or Pawn A Luxury Watch

To liquidate a watch in a quick yet safe and proven way requires you to pay attention to some essential things. Here are tried and tested tips for beginners:

  • Avoid Shady Online Platforms – If you want to get the most out of your luxury watch, better avoid online apps and platforms like Craigslist, OfferUp, Letgo, etc. Meeting up with strangers is generally unsafe and the risks can outweigh the benefits. Going to these platforms also poses disadvantages such as price haggling, waiting for a buyer to make a contact, and meeting a potential buyer that might not even turn up.
  • Skip The Retail Stores – Many resale websites have emerged for people who want to sell their second-hand items. However, consumers rarely receive a good return since these websites will only buy the items at a relatively low price.
  • Find A Professional Buyer – Go to a shop that has a deep understanding of luxury watches and offers a competitive rate. Make sure you are dealing in a secure environment and you are talking to people who are highly skilled and professional. You can easily search the web for more information and reviews for a particular pawn shop.

The 5 Most Desirable Luxury Timepieces That Shaped 2018

luxury watches

Timekeeping has come a long, long way from the sundials that our ancestors first used. With all the innovations that have shaken the world of watch-making in 2018, there’s never been a better time to buy a high-quality timepiece that will stand the test of time not only in terms of build quality, but also of style, functionality, and performance.

As the year comes to a close and a new one begins, let us take a look at some of the best timepieces that came out in 2018.

  1. Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 P2P

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency will perhaps be remembered as one of the biggest buzzwords of 2018. Although 2018 would mark the year Bitcoin crashed from its historical peak of $19,000 in 2017, 2018 was the year in which Bitcoin captured the public’s imagination.

To celebrate Bitcoin’s 10th year anniversary, Hublot launched the Big Bang Meca-10 P2P limited edition watch in September 2018. Only 210 (signifying the 21 million global bitcoin limit) will ever be manufactured, and it can only be purchased online with bitcoin.

The Big Bang Meca-10 P2P features a 45mm case made of zirconium dioxide pressed at extremely high temperatures, making it extremely durable. It also features an engraving of the bitcoin transaction ID involved in the purchase of the watch. In another nod to Bitcoin, it also sports a blockchain-inspired design, signifying the globally-interconnected network of computers that supports the entire bitcoin ecosystem.

The Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 P2P is available online for the equivalent of $25,000 in bitcoin and is expected to be released in 2019.

  1. Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic

If there’s a single word that can succinctly and accurately describe the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic, it would be magic.

This Bulgari watch broke not one, even two, but three watch-making records early in 2018.  It is currently the world’s thinnest automatic watch at 3.95mm thick, has the world’s thinnest tourbillon (the part of the watch responsible for canceling the downward effect of gravity inside the watch’s mechanism) at 1.95mm. The tourbillion is considered to be the thinnest automatic variant in existence today.

You’d be forgiven to think that Bulgari’s record-breaking timepiece is a one-off meant for gracing the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records, but what really makes the watch stand out is that it is a production model meant for day-to-day use. The watch and its casing are made of sandblasted aluminum to allow its thin frame to withstand the rigors of everyday use.

Only 50 of these timepieces are scheduled for its production run, and each will cost $118,000.

  1. Patek Philippe 5270P Grand Complication Chronograph

Patek Philippe regularly makes a name for themselves in the watch-making world, it’s no surprise given their reputation for luxurious and technically complicated timepieces.

Take, for example, the 5270. Patek Philippe’s 5270 was initially released in 2011, revised with some new dials in 2013, then finally updated in 2018. With the addition of salmon dials and a shift in piece material from gold to platinum, it’s not an exaggeration to say that this iteration of the 5270 is perhaps its ultimate incarnation. Salmon dials have traditionally been reserved for exceedingly rare and special timepieces, so the addition of salmon dials to an already luxurious timepiece is sure to make it the envy of collectors everywhere.

In addition to its platinum case and salmon dials, the 5270 sports a date display, moon phase display, and a 30-minute counter. They retail for approximately $180,000

  1. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M initially released in 1993. It was featured as James Bond’s watch in the 1995 classic “Goldeneye,” and has featured in subsequent James Bond movies ever since.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Seamaster Diver 300M has been re-released with a number of design updates, functionality updates, new features and an updated look to bring it up-to-speed with the times. The new model now measures at 42mm and features ceramic bezels and dials, a glossy finish, and caliber-8800 movement – a large leap from the caliber 2500 movement its previous iterations used.

While the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M does enjoy a sizable collector’s following due to its association with the James Bond movies, it is at its core a diving watch designed to withstand the rigors of high-pressure environments. And dive it does, with its newly-redesigned helium escape valve that protects it from damage caused by rapid depressurization.

  1. Bell and Ross BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire

An updated iteration of the BR-X1 initially released in 2016, the BR-X1 Skeleton Tourbillon Sapphire is made with five blocks of sapphire crystal designed to showcase the inner workings of the watch down to the last detail. Both the BR-X1 and its successor were designed to look like an aircraft instrument panel, and this design delivers.

The BR-X1 has the main timepiece seemingly in the 12-o’clock-position, with a one-minute flying tourbillon seemingly suspended at the six-o’clock position. The dials feature Super-LumiNova indices, as well as skeletonized minute and hour hands. The watch can go for as long as 100 hours when fully wound.

With sapphire being a notoriously hard-to-carve material (remember that it is the second hardest mineral on earth), it’s no surprise that only 5 of these timepieces were ever produced. The price tag is nothing to scoff at either, as the BR-X1 retails for around $500,000 each.

In the world of watch-making, 2018 will be remembered as a year of breakthroughs and ingenuity. Multiple records have been broken and traditional styles have been revamped with modern materials. There’s never been a better time to invest in a quality timepiece as we approach the New Year.

A Royal Legacy: History of Cartier’s Exquisite Luxury Creations

Amidst the disruptive times of the ongoing French revolution, Louis-François Cartier took over his master’s workshop and founded Cartier in 1847. Little did people know that this humble shop in Paris would become one of the most coveted brands in the world, transforming into the global empire it is today.

For more than a century, Cartier was hailed as the King of Jewelers, enchanting the world with its unique and sophisticated designs. Its striking watches and famed jewelry display boldness and a spirit of innovation which has remained consistent since the company’s inception.

How It Started

As a young apprentice, Louis-François, then 29 years old, carried on the work of his master Adolphe Picardat in Rue Montorgueil Paris. The illustrious clientele was captivated by the talent and brilliance of this jeweler, unlike any other.

Cartier’s business grew and expanded with the rise of the Second Empire and opened its first boutique in 1859. Louis-François’s son Alfred then took charge of the shop, moving it to Paris’ central jewelry district Rue de la Paix.

Watches

Cartier ventured into watches in 1904 when the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont complained about the inconvenience of scrabbling for his pocket watch while flying. This started the Cartier Santos, a flat men’s wristwatch with a square bezel, pioneering all of Cartier’s watches.

In the same year, the company became the official purveyor to King Edward VII of the United Kingdom and King Alfonso XII of Spain. Alfred’s sons Pierre and Jacques soon expanded the House of Cartier overseas, opening shops in New York City and London. His other son Louis remained at home to continue the growth of their brand. His innovative ideas, such as using platinum in jewelry, earned Cartier the title of “Jeweller of Kings, King of Jewelers” from King Edward VII.

Jacques frequently traveled to India and the Persian Gulf in search of the finest pearls while Pierre courted Evalyn Walsh McLean, to whom Cartier sold the famous Hope diamond. In 1911, the Maharaja of Patiala in India commissioned Cartier to create a sensational necklace with 2930 diamonds.

Three years later, the iconic Panthère motif was used for the first time, which eventually became a tantamount Cartier symbol. In 1924, the brand launched its “Trinity De Cartier” collection – one of the most iconic pieces of jewelry in history. The three rings symbolize different stages of a relationship – white for friendship, pink for love, and yellow for fidelity. At this point, Cartier has built a reputation for being the go-to couture jeweler and watchmaker of the affluent.

History of Ownership

In 1942, Louis and Jacques Cartier died, and Pierre became the company’s sole president. He would continue to bring success to the brand, such as the watches Baignoires in the 1950s and the Crash watch of the mid-1960s. The company started to face a decline when Pierre Cartier passed away in 1964. By the end of the decade, their empire had become dissolute, brought up by a number of investors.

During the 1970s, the capitalist Robert Hocq, together with financier Joseph Kanoui, spearheaded a group of investors composed of South Africa’s Rupert family, founders of the Rothman/Richemont dynasty, to buy Cartier’s New York branch. Soon after they moved on to buy the rest of Cartier’s divisions, reorganizing the company as Cartier World. At the start of the 1980s, the Kruger family bought out the rest of the company’s investors, adding Cartier to its Richemont holdings.

The Cartier Look

Being one of the most revered names in the jewelry industry, much has been said about the Cartier look. For its exquisite and breathtaking product designs, the brand has been on the wish list of many around the world. Celebrated by individuals and adored by royalty, the Cartier look symbolizes pure excellence with its fabulous lineage of precious accessories, watchmaking, and fine jewelry. It comes with little wonder how the brand was able to grasp the international attention of the rich and famous.

Many royalties and celebrities have had an association with Cartier. Whether it’s Richard Burton gifting a necklace with a 69.42-carat diamond to Elizabeth Taylor to Prince Rainier of Monaco who gave a 10.47-carat diamond-ruby engagement ring to Grace Kelly, Cartier has provided for the most influential and affluent for decades. The company created innumerable pieces for royalty in the last century, which were worn with great pride. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, also wore a stunning Cartier tiara at her wedding with Prince William.

Popular Class Patronage

Although Cartier became widely known for its celebrity following, the brand is also favored by the popular class, especially for its jewelry. The Cartier love bracelet that stands for everlasting love and affection has been worn by many lovers across the globe. Medieval chastity belts inspired the jewelry’s design, symbolizing fidelity and devotion.

Icons such as Tom Cruise, Pierce Brosnan, and Mick Jagger wear Cartier watches. Some of America’s First Ladies like Jackie Kennedy and Michelle Obama also donned these famous watches. In addition, Cartier has bags, perfumes, and sunglasses

Cartier produced some of the most prestigious luxury accessories in history. Its style has evolved through its rich history and experiences. Cartier perfumes are elegant and beautiful examples of conventional products that can still shake up the world.

Gaining inspirations from the owners’ travels, the brand has come up with unique collections like the Panther appearing in different poses and forms in real or graphic designs. The Panther then became a symbol of positive femininity and reflected a liberated and passionate woman with Cartier’s master craft designs. The company also explores daring and eccentric styles to create exceptional stories from every piece.

Why You Should Get Your Dad A Watch On Father’s Day (And Which Kind)

Every third Sunday of June, Father’s Day is celebrated throughout the United States. The holiday, which was first celebrated in year 1910, aims to realize and honor the contribution of every dad, uncle, grandfather, and father figure. It is a special day which celebrates the fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the efforts of male (sometimes female) parents towards their family.

In light of the occasion, you may wonder, “what should I buy my dad this Father’s Day?”

If you ask Biltmore Loan and Jewelry, you can never go wrong with a classic watch. For decades, a timepiece has been an ideal present for different occasions. Not only is it a memorable item, a watch is also something that your father can treasure for years to come. Whether your dad prefers leather straps or an all-metal feel, watches are investments in the sense that they consist of valuable components that retain value over time.

If you need more convincing, here are three additional reasons you should buy your dad a watch for Father’s Day:

  1. High-Quality Time Keeping

Beyond aesthetics, an essential function that every watch must do is tell time. Although watches are widely available in inexpensive price points, they are likely mass-produced by unskilled laborers. Whereas, it takes a trained and passionate artisan to craft a luxury timepiece that can operate for decades.

Some of the most famous watchmaking companies include Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet, which employ master horologists to piece together their signature timepieces. These household watch companies only work in state-of-the-art facilities, where standards of craftsmanship are maintained at remarkably high stakes. For instance, Patek Philippe’s luxury watches are so intricate that a master horologist may take anywhere between 10 months (for basic models) and two whole years (for extremely complex models) to finish a single watch. This top-notch level of quality, in craftsmanship and materials, ensures that luxury watches can reliably tell time even if a person passes them on as heirlooms in the future. Best of all, most luxury watches only require minor tune-ups every five years or so. Conversely, an inexpensive and mass-produced watch that can withstand the test of time is nearly unheard of.

  1. A Subtle Display of Wealth and Class

As much as we hate to admit it, we do live in a world where looks matter. A well-dressed man who knows how to accessorize is more likely to attract the right kind of attention. This fact is evident in the level of attraction several of the world’s most successful and influential men get, which include celebrities, presidents, prime ministers, and Fortune 500 CEOs. Luxury timepieces are a subtle way to say that the wearer understands and appreciates a more refined quality of life.

  1. A Potential Heirloom

For fathers with greater concerns in life than displaying their social class, a top-quality timepiece can be an heirloom that lasts for generations. A watch can become an archetypal tradition symbolizing one of the most important duty a man has: looking after his family.

In the case of daughters, keeping your dad’s old watch can help you remember the good times you shared when you were little. It is also a meaningful item to hand down to your own son, which he can wear to honor and commemorate his grandfather.

The Perfect Timepiece for Your Dad

Much like a suit and tie, a man’s watch needs to complement his personal sense of style. Choosing the right watch ties together the wearer’s ensemble and presence as a whole. Thus, you need to know your options.

Remember, luxury watches are the epitome of wealth and understated confidence that has nothing to prove. If you don’t know which luxury watch to pick up for your dad, here are seven different timepieces to consider for nearly every type of dad:

The Takeaway

Although any watch can provide the duty of telling time, luxury timepieces offer more to those willing to invest in them, including a lifetime of satisfaction for their current and future wearers.

Poor-quality watches — like those made of faux leather, plastic, and plated alloys — almost never command impressive prices in the resale market, nor do they survive for long periods of time. Conversely, another great factor in luxury timepieces is the long-term investment value in their distinguished brand name, which makes them all the more appealing as the ideal Father’s Day present.

So, what are you waiting for? Stop staring at that luxury watch at the display counter and buy it for your pops!

Timeless Timepieces: Understanding the Growing Obsession with Watches

Did you know that the luxury watch industry is on the rise? A report from Deloitte stated that in 2014, the Swiss watch industry exported nearly $21 billion. The question is: Why?

Allow Biltmore Loan and Jewelry to explain why many individuals are developing a growing obsession with timepieces, and why many are quick to invest in expensive watches.

A Watch is an Extension of Who You Are

A watch represents something incredibly profound. It is much more than a device that tells time; it is also an extension of ourselves. A timepiece speaks volumes in terms of identifying its wearer. From diamond-encrusted bezels to sleek and simplistic dials, these characteristics offer a unique window into the life of a person we have never met or may never meet.

Generally, a timepiece highlights many facets of your life, including your personality, sense of style, taste, wealth, and even humor.

A Watch is a Piece of Art

For a watch to come to life, a highly skilled artist must put together raw materials in such a fashion that it results in a beautiful, intricately functioning piece. According to Josh Srolovitz, watch collector and founder of Govberg Jewelers, “Of these parts the escapement, or heart, is at the center of it all. A simple wind of the crown gives the escapement the power to start “beating,” which in turn brings life to the rest of the movement.”

A Watch May Represent a Time in History

Several collectors and enthusiasts remain immensely fascinated by the design and movement of a watch. However, another profound factor in many’s growing obsession for timepieces lies on the story behind its creation. For instance, the Cartier Tank with Mechanical Movement hails from the early 1900s, with the now-world-renowned brand only making less than a hundred of its kind from 1910 until 1960. Some public figures who wore this timeless timepiece include Princess Diana of Wales, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and former First Lady Jackie Kennedy-Onassis. Another example would be the antique Longines chronograph, a timepiece that could very well have entrenched in battle on the wrist of a military personnel during a great world war. Many collectors love to imagine who may have worn the watch on their wrists, where in the world it had traveled to, and how old it truly is.

Popular Timepieces Worth Investing In

The following are some of the world’s most popular types of watches:

1. Analog Watch

An analog watch is a true classic consisting of a traditional clock face with 12 hours. It is inclusive of both an hour hand and a minute hand, although several analog watches now have a second hand. Some analog watches display traditional numbers, while others consist of Roman numerals.

2. Digital Watch

Roughly 40 years ago, Hamilton made waves by introducing the world’s first commercial electronic digital wristwatch. This particular type of time-telling device has hours, minutes, and even seconds indicated by digits instead of hands on a dial.

3. Automatic Watch

An automatic watch, otherwise known as a “self-winding” watch, continues to operate with or without a battery. According to Gear Patrol, an automatic wristwatch works by “using a weight inside the watch that oscillates to put tension on the mainspring through the random motion of the watch wearer’s arm,” meaning Some automatic timepieces may continually run for as long as the wearer makes random motions. On the other hand, most self-winding watches, when fully wound, will run continuously for over 40 hours.

4. Chronograph Watch

I layman’s terms, “chronograph” simply means “stopwatch” or “timer.” A standard chronograph watch consists of an independent sweep second hand that can be started, stopped, and returned to zero without interfering with the watch’s ability to tell time accurately. This specific watch is perfect for timing races, competitions, and workout goals, among others.

5. Quartz Watch

An electronic oscillator synchronized by a quartz crystal is what allows the intricate quartz timepiece to operate. The electric current causes the quartz to vibrate back and forth with a precise frequency. The frequency is then broken down through an integrated circuit, where power is released through a stepping motor to set the watch’s hands in motion. All quartz watches require battery replacements from time to time.

6. Dive Watch

A diving watch is specially designed for to function underwater and is inclusive of diving features, such as water resistance of up to 100 meters, though modern technology allows the creation of diving watches that can go much deeper.

7. Field Watch

A field watch boasts rugged functionality and classic aesthetics. Military men and women sport this practical and stylish timepiece to tell time during wee hours of the night and coordinate attacks, all while withstanding the rigors of battle. Field watches are gaining massive popularity among people of all classes because of their quality and unique style.

8. Aviator Watch

What once only graced the wrists of pilots are now widely available to the public. Aviation timepieces, known for their style and durability, feature a circular slide rule or “whiz wheel,” which performs all kinds of time, fuel, distance calculations, and unit conversions for pilots.

9. Luxury Watch

Luxury timepieces are for individuals who prefer the finer, more extravagant things in life. These watches are ideal for watch collectors or connoisseurs who adore precision, uniqueness, and handcrafted complications in a watch. Although many luxury watches are simple, they are still crafted from the best quality golds and silvers. Furthermore, several luxury timepieces may also veer away from simplicity by boasting precious gemstones and other expensive materials as adornments.

Watches Can Survive Beyond the Digital Era

There is so much more to a wristwatch than the simple function of telling time. Unlike a smartphone, a quality wristwatch is made to last for generations. It is unlikely for your smartphone or smartwatch — whose technology could become obsolete in just a few short months — will ever compare to the artistry, sentimental value, and rising cost of a classic timepiece. In the event that you are looking to sell your watches, bring them to Biltmore Loan and Jewelry for a free market appraisal. For service inquiries, you may contact our Scottsdale office at 480-991-5626, or our Chandler office at 480-705-5626.

The 10 Most Expensive Watches in the World

There was a time when a watch was more than just a fashion accessory — wearing one was an absolute necessity for both men and women because without it, one would never be able to tell time.  These days, watches have been relegated mostly to just being an additional accent to a fashionable outfit, with more and more people relying on their smartphones to tell time.

A watch is the only accessory that both men and women can wear without fear of being out of season or committing a fashion faux pas. You can even change straps to suit the occasion, or wear one that’s ideally suited for you and your lifestyle. An example of such is a dress watch with a leather strap that is perfect for individuals who have a classic sense of style. Meanwhile, metal-strapped ones are great for those who need a watch that matches practically everything. A trendy, rubber-strapped watch in a fun color is perfect for relaxed weekend dressing, and a seriously blinged-out watch is something that serious fashionistas would reach for.

A watch symbolizes time more than a smartphone does, which is why the top-of-the-line ones are often made with practically indestructible materials. Since watches are timeless accessories, they are meant to last for generations. This also means that they can be costly. Here is a rundown of the most expensive watches in the world, in no particular order.

1. Paul Newman Rolex Daytona

Rolex is one of the most covetable timepiece brands. This particular model, a gift to Paul Newman by his wife Joanne Woodward in 1968, is lovingly engraved with a “Drive Carefully” message and has been a Holy Grail timepiece among collectors and fans for decades. The watch, which features a black and cream exotic dial, was originally priced at $1.34 million (the going price for Rolex Daytonas), before it was sold to an anonymous phone buyer for $17.8 million.

2. Maitres Du Temps Chapter One Round Transparence

Maitres du Temps is best known for crafting game-changing watch models, the result of collaborations among the most exceptional watchmakers in the world. Their Chapter One Round Transparence is the perfect testament to the quality of their timepieces. The watch is both classic and complex, the combination of design philosophies that border on idiosyncratic and horology techniques. It also features a gorgeous 18k gold case and limited edition engraving. Only 11 models were made, making this highly covetable. It costs $541,360.

3. Christophe Claret DualTow Night Eagle

There are only 68 models released worldwide for this sleek watch, making it a collector’s item. The Night Eagle is a modified version of the earlier DualTow concept, which tells time on two revolving belts, the movement offering a chronograph that has a special planetary gear system. Apart from this unique feature, it also has tourbillons, which helps counter the effect of gravity within the watch, as well as a mini gong and hammer for its chime. Amping up the manly look are 65 jewels that gleam within its dark color scheme. This watch is priced at $596,000.

4. Bulgari Magsonic Sonnerie Tourbillon

Bulgari, the famed Italian jewelry brand, is not just known for creating some of the world’s most gorgeous and iconic jewelry pieces. It is also known for the quality and beauty of its timepieces, the result of its having acquired Swiss watch brand Gerald Genta. Its most popular and most expensive watch is the Magsonic Sonnerie Tourbillon, which is priced at $621,760. The most prominent feature of this expertly crafted, beautiful watch are the chimes that have been enhanced by a special magsonic alloy.

5. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Grande Complication

Audemars is a brand that is known for pioneering the technique of crafting timepieces that have multiple features. The crown jewel in its collection is the Grande Complication, with its hand-finished insides that are cut out and bead-blasted with polished bevels. It has a matte surface underneath and features split-second chronograph, perpetual calendar, and a minute repeater. Apart from its multi-function features, the watch is a beauty made mostly of titanium. It is priced at almost a hundred million dollars.

6. Franck Muller Aeternitas Mega 4

The Mega 4 model of Franck Muller offers 36 different complications (that’s shop-talk for features), 1,483 individual components, and a 1,000-year calendar, among many other eclectic features. This watch, touted as the “Master of Complications” by watch aficionados, is meant to last for many generations. It also features a glass sapphire case back and a tourbillon piece on the dial. This engineering feat of a watch will set you back $2.4 million.

7. George Daniels Co-Axial Chronograph

George Daniels was, at one point, considered the most important watchmaker of the 20th century, having produced only a few dozen timepieces. He achieved this status because he invented the Co-Axial Escapement system, which he later sold to Omega. This watch is perhaps the most classic and most minimalist in this list in terms of aesthetics, but it is just as packed with features. This model recently sold for $619,000 at an auction.

Biltmore Loan accepts luxury, high-end watches and timepieces

8. Patek Philippe 5004T

It’s been said that you are not a serious watch collector if you do not own a Patek Philippe. The 5004T is the only titanium version of the beautiful and well beloved 5004, which is why it is priced at a staggering $3.9 million. This rare edition sports a sportier, more colorful look – the perfect update to the conservative 5004’s Carlton.

9. Louis Monet Meteoris Collection

Louis Monet is the 18th century-born father of chronograph watches, so it is fitting that a collection is named after him. The Meteoris Collection is composed of four watches, each of which features precious stones and meteorite pieces integrated into the dials. Each watch has a unique piece or rare space rock, which makes the collection name even apter. As expected, the prices of these watches are astronomical as well, with each watch priced at $4.6 million.

10. Breguet Grande Complication Marie Antoinette

Now it can be said that the most expensive watch ever was designed for a woman – perhaps the most frivolous of them all. This watch was commissioned by one of Marie-Antoinette’s lovers in 1782, with Abraham-Louis Breguet and his son working on it. The watch, finished in 1827, is encased in gold and houses the most intricate mechanism inside. It costs $33.5 million.

Looking for a New Home for Your Luxury Timepiece?

Watches can be very expensive, but they are worth the investment. To paraphrase a Patek Philippe ad, you never really own a watch – you merely look after it for the next generation. If you possess any of these watches and would like to find a new home for it, visit out Scottsdale and Chandler locations.
